NADIA REID shares stunning new song 'Hold it Up' |Check it out today
Containing the finest songwriting of Reid’s career. Enter Now Brightness is a record of poise and great beauty, the sound of a cellular shift, of pain giving way to tenderness and joy. It takes its title from a passage in a book Reid was reading from a line that seemed to call out to her from the page: ‘Brightness entered the study.’ “I wrote that down, ” she says. “It was the image of opening the curtain, or turning the light on, or of standing in the wings of a theatre and waiting to go on stage. It’s the idea of life beginning now. ” ‘Hold It Up’ is accompanied by a beautiful music video shot on Piha Beach on the West Coast of Auckland, New Zealand
SCOWL announce new album | Check out new single 'Not Hell, Not Heaven'
Santa Cruz hardcore band Scowl have announced a new album, Are We All Angels, for April 4th via Dead Oceans, their first with the label, whose roster includes Phoebe Bridgers, Mitski, Japanese Breakfast, etc. Produced by Will Yip (Turnstile, Title Fight, Mannequin Pussy, etc.), who worked on their most recent project, the Psychic Dance Routine EP, Are We All Angels finds the venomous and antagonistic band funneling their aggression through a more expansive version of themselves. The first single, ‘Not Hell, Not Heaven,’ outright rejects the narratives cast onto them by outsiders. “It’s about feeling victimized and being a victim, but not wanting to identify with being a victim,” explains vocalist / front woman Kat Moss. “It’s trying to find grace in the fact that I have my power. I live in my reality. You have to deal with whatever you’re dealing with, and it ain’t working for me.
MAGNOLIA PARK announces concept album VAMP | Listen to 'CULT' today
One of the most exciting and forward-thinking groups in alternative music today, Orlando, FL quintet Magnolia Park are unveiling plans for their third record ‘VAMP’ – a neo-gothic concept album rich in world-building and gripping storytelling – out April 11 via Epitaph Records. Culling influence from the long-running Vampire Hunter D, iconic works like Star Wars, Dracula and Joseph Cambell’s legendary monomyth, the storyline details an ominous journey through Nocturne Nexus where rulers and rebels battle with the future hanging in the balance. Here to set the tone for this expansive soundscape and storyline is ‘CULT’, an empowering, nü-metal rager that positions the protagonist of the narrative (a half-human, half-cyborg warrior named Aurora X1) readying her followers for an epic battle.
CIRCUIT DES YEUX announce new album | Listen to new song 'Megaloner'
Last fall, when Circuit des Yeux (aka CdY, aka Haley Fohr) released the stand-alone single ‘God Dick,’ she described the song as a passage leading from the past toward things to come. “It served a chrysalis function,” wrote Fohr. “A love banshee bursting through porcelain skin one hair at a time until, finally, the beast within is fully on display.” Out March 14th, Halo on the Inside is the product of that metamorphosis. It is the butterfly and the beast – a rhapsodic, hedonistic, dance floor-adjacent, pagan-friendly, horns-adorning wall of sound and emotion. Halo on the Inside finds CdY renewed, recombinant, and thrillingly alien. You can hear the new song ‘Megaloner.’ With its pulsing electro-infused synths, the song offers an opening jolt of dark and expansive pop.
