DIE! DIE! DIE! find an abandoned demo & release new single 'Smelter'
Currently touring the motu, Tāmaki, by way of Ōtepoti post-punks, Die! Die! Die! release a brand new stand-alone single titled ‘Smelter’. Says guitarist/singer Andrew Wilson of the track, “We found a rough demo of Smelter in the first lockdown in 2020 from our abandoned *Flying Nun** fourth album sessions in 2010. We liked it so much that we decided to bring the song back to life. Lyrically the song is about a lost friend”.*
Seattle's' High Pulp share new video featuring GRAMMY nominated jazz trumpeter Theo Croker
Born out of a loose, weekly jam session hosted at Seattle’s historic Royal Room, the band came together the way a good heist crew might. Drawing on punk rock, shoegaze, hip-hop, and electronic music, High Pulps' brand of experimental jazz is both vintage and futuristic all at once, hinting at times to everything from Miles Davis and Duke Ellington to Aphex Twin and My Bloody Valentine.
GILLA BAND releases new track 'Backwash' from forthcoming album
In July, Irish noisemakers Gilla Band (formerly Girl Band) announced their follow-up to 2019’s The Talkies. Most Normal is out in October via Rough Trade. So far, Gilla Band has shared the lead single 'Eight Fivers,' and now they’re following that up with a talk-singing, aggressively discordant number called 'Backwash.' “The initial idea for the whole album was that it would loosely sound like a dream,” singer Dara Kiely says of the new track - click through to watch.
Florida pop punks MAGNOLIA PARK share new single & video
Magnolia Park are keeping the new music coming right now! Following the release of 'Don’t Be Racist' earlier in the week, today the Florida pop-punks have shared another banger: I should’ve listened to my friends. Letting the lyrics explain the meaning, the band simply state of their latest track: “Toxic relationships hurt the most, but nothing hurts more than losing all your friends because of them.”
Molly Lewis pays homage to James Bonds in new video
LA-based, Australia-bred preeminent whistler Molly Lewis shares the second single 'Cabana de Mel,' a Bossa Nova guitar riff inspired, ode to honey huts, off her upcoming sophomore EP, Mirage. NEKO CASE celebrates 20th anniversary of ‘BLACKLISTED’
Neko Case’s 'I Wish I Was the Moon' was released as track 11 on her third record, Blacklisted in 2002, it was also the title of, and featured song in a 'True Blood' episode. Today you can watch Neko perform the single, from her first-ever official streaming performance entitled ‘Wild Creatures: Live From The Lung.’ Recorded from Neko’s home studio in Vermont for tomorrow August 20th, will be the 20th anniversary of the release of Neko Case’s seminal third solo album ‘Blacklisted.’
INTERPOL release The Black EP and rare doco
On August 20th, Interpol’s canonical debut album Turn On The Bright Lights turns 20. To commemorate this moment, the band today make the fan-favourite and TOTBL companion The Black EP available on digital platforms. Accompanying the release is a 2002 short documentary on the band - the 13-minute clip is brought to glorious hi-res restoration, featuring interviews with the band as well as snippets of performances.
