JULIEN BAKER & TORRES share sweet country duet | Take a listen to 'Sugar in the Tank'
Are they the new outlaws? After surprising fans with an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon earlier this week, today Julien Baker & TORRES have dropped their much-talked-about debut single ‘Sugar in the Tank’ via Matador Records. Formed by their shared experiences of growing up queer in the south, ‘Sugar in the Tank’ not only reflects Julien Baker & TORRES’ love of country music, but joyfully reclaims the genre’s traditions and iconography which until only recently felt exclusionary. The single is a beautiful duet that is authentically country as it is a celebration of the songwriter’s roots.
HORSEGIRL release new song 'Julie' | Check out the incredible animated video
Horsegirl — the New York-via-Chicago trio of best friends Nora Cheng, Penelope Lowenstein, and Gigi Reece — release the new single/video, ‘Julie,’ from their upcoming second album, Phonetics On and On, out February 14th, 2025 via Matador Records. Following the “spunky and freewheeling” (Stereogum) lead single “2468,” “Julie” serves as the album’s centerpiece, with synth drones acting as an ocean for Lowenstein’s vocals to sail above, all while Cheng’s wonderfully avant-garde anti-solo’s pierce through the woven sea.

BIG THIEF announce new pressing of Capacity | Back Catalogue Goodness
The trails that Brooklyn’s Big Thief — Adrianne Lenker (guitar, vocals), Buck Meek (guitar), Max Oleartchik (bass), and James Krivchenia (drums) — take us down on 2017’s Capacity, the band’s highly critically acclaimed sophomore album, are overgrown with the wilderness of pumping souls. The album jumps right into lives marked up and nipped in surprisingly swift fashion. They are peopled and unpeopled, spooked and soothed, regenerating back into a state where they can once again be vulnerable. Lenker’s songs introduce us to a gallery of multifaceted women and deal with the complicated matters of identity — at once dangerous and curious, though never unbelievable.

High octane Philadelphia punk collective Mannequin Pussy are playing their debut Aotearoa show this summer, Tāmaki's Makaurau's The Tuning Fork as a pre-Xmas treat for fans on 13th December. Released in March via Epitaph, their new album I Got Heaven received gushing praise from music nerds and Pitchfork (achieving 8.8 on the site's infamously nit-picky scale) on arrival as "intensely pleasurable" and "an essential... mouthy, messy, and self-assured" record, in the ecstatically cathartic tradition of Hole's Live Through This. Arising in the early '10s and now with four studio long players to a name that most likely heads direct to your spam folder, do not miss Marisa Dabice, Colins “Bear” Regisford, Kaleen Reading and Maxine Steen's explosive first performances on local stages — brought to you by I OH YOU, MG LIVE and Frontier Touring...
