MOUSEY unveils deeply personal new album |Listen to 'Home Alone'
Ōtautahi-based songwriter Mousey, the creative alias of Sarena Close, announces her third album, The Dreams of Our Mothers’ Mothers!, set for release on October 18th, 2024 via Winegum Records / Concord Publishing. This album delves deeply into personal and familial themes, reflecting Mousey’s growth and exploration of self. To herald this new chapter, Mousey releases the wistful single ‘Home Alone’ accompanied by a music video, directed by Robyn Jordaan. ’Home Alone’ offers a glimpse into the raw honesty of The Dreams of Our Mothers’ Mothers!.

This week, The Linda Lindas released ‘Yo Me Estreso,’ the new single and video from their recently announced new album, No Obligation, due October 11th via Epitaph. The song and video feature “Weird Al” Yankovich on guest accordion. No Obligation, the second full-length release from The Linda Lindas further advances their unironic, joyful, and exciting trajectory of mashing up L.A. punk with post punk, garage rock, power pop, new wave and rock en español. Current Joys, the songwriting moniker of Nick Rattigan, has shared the second preview of his new album East My Love, due out October 11th via Secretly Canadian. On ‘They Shoot Horses,’ Rattigan translates vulnerability about his struggles with relationships into a vocal performance that’s so ragged it feels like it could disintegrate at any moment.
JOY ORBISON releases 'Flex fm (freddit)' with friends | Essential weekend listening!
This week marks the official release of flex fm (freddit) featuring Playboi Carti, Future and Lil Yachty, as London and Atlanta unite on the track which melds ‘Flight FM’ with Lil Yachty’s ‘Flex Up’. Described by Yachty himself as “like a thousand bees swarming”, ‘flex fm’ (coincidentally also the name of Joy Orbison’s favourite London radio station) was originally created by Fred to play at his The Lot Radio and Knockdown Center shows with Little Yachty and Overmono in New York to celebrate the release of their ‘stayinit’ collaboration in February.

When asked to reflect on their career and all they’ve accomplished, both Prowse and King are hesitant to think in terms of legacy. They consider Fate & Alcohol a parting gift to fans, because Japandroids have approached every recording as fans themselves, from influences and ethics to artwork and merch. “This record combines the energy and abandon of the first two with the storytelling of Near to the Wild Heart of Life—youthful exuberance but tempered with a point of view, of life lived.” You can hear those ideas collide on ‘D&T,’ a song whose natural effervescence is shot through with glimpses of the morning after.

These Heavens EP is an exploration into the universe and the beauty of nature via a series of shapeshifting sonics that are just as well-suited for personal introspection as they are for sweaty underground dancefloors. ‘Lagrange’ is the first track released. In part inspired by the Death Stranding soundtrack, ‘Lagrange’ sees a bright vocal ricochet over long, atmospheric synths. On Friday, Delicate Steve (aka Steve Marion), will release his new LP Delicate Steve Sings. Out August 16th on ANTI-, the album is the 6th LP from the critically-acclaimed guitarist, who was worked with artists like Miley Cyrus, Paul Simon, Amen Dunes, Tame Impala and The Black Keys, while carving out a truly unique niche as an instrumental musician over the past decade. Delicate Steve‘s new LP was influenced by the classic Willie Nelson cover album Stardust. Inspired by the way Nelson took iconic songs and made them his own, Steve’s new LP features a collection of original compositions and a handful of covers on which he channels the singing styles of a series of iconic singers through his guitar playing.

The Enigmatic Welsh producer Koreless today releases a brand new EP, Deceltica, via Young. The four-track EP includes a new single ‘Deceltica’, as well as the previously released single ‘Seven’, a vibrant ‘Seven’ remix by fellow Welsh producer and friend Jorg Kuning, and an extended version of ‘Seven (Drumhell)’, which first appeared on HAAi’s DJ-Kicks compilation.

DINOSAUR JR. release expanded reissue of Farm | Check out rarity 'Show'
This Friday, Dinosaur Jr. will release a 15th anniversary expanded reissue of their seminal second post-reunion album, Farm, originally released in 2009 to widespread critical acclaim. The limited lime-coloured vinyl reissue arrives via the band’s long-term home of Jagjaguwar and is available to pre-order. Check out 'Show' a barely-minute-long lightning bolt of noise and fury, it harks right back to the primordial ooze of hardcore-meets-psychedelia from which Dinosaur Jr. once emerged.
MCLUSKY announce reissue of Steve Albini produced album | A must for fans, and rediscovery!
Twenty years ago, mclusky released their third album, The Difference Between Me and You Is That I’m Not On Fire via Too Pure. In the years since, their legend has only grown, proved by their recent sold-out tour dates. Alternative Press described them as “a smash up between the scabrous rock noise of the Jesus Lizard and the jagged rhythms and open spaces of Gang Of Four”. Originally produced by the late, great Steve Albini, this reissue has been remastered by his close friend and Shellac bandmate, Bob Weston and is pressed on 180gram black vinyl. Set for release on October 4th, pre-orders are now open.

Last year, the members of Mdou Moctar convened in Niger to complete their then-unfinished album, Funeral For Justice, and to capture a series of live sets in the region surrounding Agadez, a historically important hub. Today, we are posting the first of these sessions: ‘The Agadez Folders: Live at Sultan’s Palace.’ It features Mdou Moctar performing a complete electric live set at the King’s Palace in the city’s center. They are joined by traditional dancers, swordsmen, and upwards of 20 camels with the Agadez Grand Mosque visible against the horizon.
