Loren Kramar releases the third single off of his upcoming debut album Glovemaker out April 26 via Secretly Canadian. Last month, Chanel Beads — the project of New York-based musician Shane Lavers — announced his debut album, Your Day Will Come, out 19th April via Jagjaguwar. Today, Lavers shares the single ‘Embarrassed Dog’ with an accompanying video directed by experimental filmmaker Robbie Barnett. ‘Embarrassed Dog’ follows the previously released singles ‘Idea June’ and ‘Police Scanner’. Featuring backing vocals by live bandmate Maya McGrory and violin from Zachary Paul, ‘Embarrassed Dog’ channels the outlandish sound of ‘80s sophisti-pop pioneered by The Blue Nile, Prefab Sprout, and David Sylvian. The two basses featured in the song (played through MIDI then doubled with a bass guitar) mirror the dual nature of the dog that Lavers sings of, which also functions as a metaphor for how he viewed his younger self: an animal bound to the lives of other people, who only pretends to be tough and scary.

A staple of the town’s large Cambodian migrant population, nascar aloe pays homage to his heritage in a creative, idiosyncratic way. “I chose these locations solely to bring some life to where I grew up and spent a lot of time,” nascar explains. “The extras for the video were all childhood friends of mine, who are also Cambodian. I know my methods are unorthodox, but I will shove this culture down your throat until Khmer people are heard.” The English translation of “Hello” in Cambodian Khmer, “CHUM REAP SUOR” features a rhythmic beat built on traditional Southeast Asian instrumentation. Layered with an eruption of distorted 808’s and heavy bass samples, the erratic vocal cadence of the verses mutates into one of his catchiest hooks yet.

In 'Buffalo Replaced,' the wail of a freight train replaces the vibrations of the long-gone stampeding buffalo. Here, hope itself is personified, anthropomorphized into a sleeping creature, and the song’s narrator wonders if life would be easier without her. As Rolling Stone noted, 'Buffalo Replaced' “evokes frontiersmen shooting at animals from freight-train windows; guitars and drums churn like the wheels of a locomotive, and Mitski’s voice rises like a train whistle, before ending on an image of small-town desolation.”

Kamasi Washington has confirmed his new album, Fearless Movement, is set for release May 4 via Young. A new song, ‘Prologue,’ debuts today alongside a video directed by longtime collaborator AG Rojas and choreographed by Samantha Blake Goodman. Washington calls Fearless Movement his dance album. “It’s not literal,” Washington says. “Dance is movement and expression, and in a way it’s the same thing as music—expressing your spirit through your body. That’s what this album is pushing.”

The Great Bailout is Moor Mother aka Camae Ayewa’s ninth studio album and third with ANTI- Records, with production contributions on various tracks from Mary Lattimore, Lonnie Holley, Vijay Ayer, Angel Bat Dawid, Sistazz of the Nitty Gritty, Aaron Dilloway and more. Called “the poet laureate of the apocalypse,” by Pitchfork, Ayewa’s music contains multitudes of instruments, voices and cacophony that take on themes of Afrofuturism and collective memory with the forebearers of jazz, hip hop and beat poetry in mind. “Research is a major part of my work, and researching history – particularly African history, philosophy and time – is a major interest,” Moor Mother said of the music’s focus on the effects of British colonialism. “Europe and Africa have a very intimate and brutal relationship throughout time. I’m interested in exploring that relationship of colonialism and liberation, in this case in Great Britain.”
