JENNY HVAL Unveils New Single ‘Buffy’
Jenny Hval unveils the enchanting new single, ‘Buffy’. “Buffy is not a song about a slayer, a superhero, or feminist icon. If anything, it’s a song about hope, but in an understated and episodic way. Because to me, hope is more hopeful when it is presented in a subtle way.” Jenny Hval’s new album Classic Objects, released earlier this year on 4AD, "…is Hval at her most approachable, with upbeat tunes and consonant sounds, both acoustic and electronic.” (The New York Times). Surrounding its release, the album received glowing reviews, which extended through the year to “Best of 2022 (So Far)” praise from Pitchfork, Stereogum, The Guardian, Uncut, and more. In our opinion you can take the "so far" out of that...
JOY ORBISON releases new single '2M3 2U'
Joy Orbison releases his new single ‘2M3 2U’, a catchy and futuristic sounding track that follows previous tracks ‘pinky ring’ and ‘red velve7’ and sees Joy O continue his journey towards the dancefloor.
“I see this one as a bit of a UK take on hyperpop,” says Joy. “But with a bit of bass weight. the vocal part could be a sample of some garbled message of love in Bladerunner or the Fifth Element, and the main riffs had me thinking about the DJ Narrows records we’d play at youth club parties. Interesting top lines seem to be a bit absent in my world these days and I’ve definitely been influenced by contemporary drum & bass and their endless search for the catchiest wobble.” “Rarely is electronic music so utterly human as on Still Slipping” – Pitchfork “One of the greatest producers in UK dance music.” – Resident Advisor
SHAME announce new album "Food For Worms" + share new single "Fingers of Steel"
“With his wild gaze, devilish grin and mix of self-deprecation and swagger, Charlie Steen is one of rock’s most compelling young figures, and he’s more than ready to get back out there.” – GQ The “Fingers of Steel” video, directed by James Humby, sees the band work 19-hour shifts creating fake social media accounts to like, follow, and comment on their own material. Of the video, frontman Charlie Steen says: “Self-obsession, social media flagellation and death can all be seen in this Oscar-nominated performance. No one’s ever done a video like this before and when you watch it, you’ll see why. Think Casablanca, but in color, and better.”

the GOLDEN DREGS shares new song 'Sundown Lake'
Benjamin Woods (the other one - not the NZ one!) shares a new song from his upcoming GOLDEN DREGS album, On Grace & Dignity. Following early single ‘American Airlines’, ‘Sundown Lake’ is a coming-of-age song full of nostalgia where band leader Benjamin Woods – joined by Issie Armstrong on backing vocals – muses on hazy memories of teenage life in Cornwall. Releasing on 10th, February, Woods‘ third album, On Grace & Dignity, considers his home and what it means to be shaped by a place – in this instance, Truro, Cornwall’s capital, home to a rare three-spired cathedral, a peaceful river and a lot of empty shops and flimsy out-of-town housing estates.

Talk about timing as old mates Counting Crows announce their down under dates. Charlie Hickey explains, “I grew up with Counting Crows and a lot of other music of that sort that a lifetime later, I realize has made its way into my own music and was more formative for me than I could’ve anticipated at the time. That’s why I thought this was the perfect opportunity to pay homage to a real classic and just a beautiful song that happens to perfectly get at that end of the year reflective melancholia.”
