On May 2nd, Car Seat Headrest will release The Scholars, a bold new rock opera and the band’s first studio album in five years. Today, you can hear the record’s soaring, uplifting opener ‘CCF (I’m Gonna Stay With You)’, following its premier by Huw Stephens on BBC 6 Music. Watch the video, featuring illustrations of the characters who appear across The Scholars designed by cartoonist Cate Wurtz.

Breakout four-piece Sleep Theory — vocalist Cullen Moore, guitarist Daniel Pruitt, bassist Paolo Vergara, and drummer Ben Pruitt — recently announced their eagerly awaited debut album, Afterglow, which arrives on May 16 via Epitaph Records. This week they have shared their latest single 'III'. The song is a thrill ride, mixing synths and raucous riffing with the band’s signature, stadium-sized melodies. The album offers a stunning display of diverse rock flavours and was produced by David Cowell and mixed by Zakk Cervini (Bring Me The Horizon, Bad Omens, Architects). III’ follows ‘Static,’ which peaked at No. 16 on Spotify Viral 50 in the U.S. and is the band’s fastest-growing song to date, with over 12 million streams since its release.

Norwegian musician, artist and novelist Jenny Hval has released ‘The artist is absent’, the second single from her upcoming new album, Iris Silver Mist, due out on 2 May via 4AD. The release comes as two versions – an extended mix entitled ’89 seconds rewrite’ and the original album version. Rough Trade Records is celebrating its formative years with the release of a limited boxset on June 20, featuring several of its key, early seven-inch singles. Boasting eight classic 45s that followed the label’s formation out the original Rough Trade shop in West London in 1978, Rough Trade 45s: Volume 1 features the likes of Augustus Pablo, The Raincoats and Young Marble Giants. The eight singles, which have been recreated especially for this edition, were handpicked by Rough Trade Records co-MDs, Jeannette Lee and Geoff Travis, who were key players in the DIY nexus that formed around the first Rough Trade shop in the late 1970s.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra have released their new album, IC-02 Bogotá, via Jagjaguwar. IC-02 Bogotá is the latest in the instrumental IC series, following 2018’s IC-01 Hanoi, and comes after V, UMO’s fifth studio album released March 17th, 2023. In addition to the vocal-based records the band is most known for, the IC series documents time spent in a chosen city while improvising and collaborating on non-vocal instrumental music. Recently, the band spent time in Colombia in order to initiate their new keyboard player, Christian Li, with the resulting sessions at Estudio Naranja becoming IC-02 Bogotá.
